Privacy Policy

The short version

We collect only what we need to run the service: your account details, the practice you complete, and a payment record if you buy credits. We use trusted providers to host the app, score your Writing and Speaking, and process payments. We don't sell your personal information. You can ask us to access or delete your data at any time.

Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address and name. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with us so we can create and identify your account — we never receive your Google password.

Profile and study goals

Information you choose to add to help us tailor your practice: your target CELPIP level, intended test date, skills you want to focus on, country, first language, and study purpose.

Practice content and results

The work you produce while practising, so we can score it and track your progress over time. This includes your Reading and Listening answers, the text of your Writing responses, and audio recordings of your Speaking responses, along with the scores and feedback generated for each.

Payment information

If you purchase credits, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card number — we keep only a record of the transaction (amount, date, credits granted, and a Stripe reference) to fulfil your purchase and for our accounting.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store the email address you provide so we can send you our updates.

Technical and usage data

Like most websites, we automatically receive limited technical information (such as your browser type and approximate region) and aggregate, privacy-friendly usage analytics via Vercel Analytics, which does not use cookies to track you across sites.

How we use your information

• To provide the service: create your account, save your progress, and personalise your study plan.
• To score your practice and generate feedback and estimated CELPIP levels.
• To process credit purchases and keep purchase records.
• To send you essential service emails (sign-up confirmation, password resets) and, if you opt in, our newsletter.
• To maintain security, prevent abuse, and comply with our legal obligations.

We rely on your consent (e.g. the newsletter), the performance of our contract with you (running your account), and our legitimate interests (keeping the service secure) as our bases for processing.

Service providers we share data with

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers that help us operate the service, each acting on our instructions:

• Supabase — authentication, database, and storage for your account, profile, and practice content.
• Vercel — application hosting and privacy-friendly analytics.
• Anthropic (Claude) — AI scoring. The text of your Writing responses and the transcript of your Speaking responses are sent to Anthropic to generate feedback. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models.
• ElevenLabs — converts your Speaking audio recordings into text (speech-to-text) so they can be scored.
• Stripe — payment processing for credit purchases.
• Resend — sending account and newsletter emails.
• Google — only if you choose “Sign in with Google”.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and our service.

International data transfers

We are based outside Canada and several of our providers process data on servers in the United States and other countries. This means your information may be stored and processed outside your country of residence, where data-protection laws may differ. By using the service you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in these locations under appropriate safeguards.

How long we keep your data

We keep your account and practice data for as long as your account is active so your history and progress remain available to you. Payment records are retained as long as required for accounting and legal purposes. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we must keep certain records by law.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (including under Canada's PIPEDA and comparable laws), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to withdraw consent, and to object to certain processing. You can:

• Update your profile information at any time in your account settings.
• Unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any newsletter email.
• Request access to, or deletion of, your account and data by emailing us.

Cookies

We use only essential cookies needed to keep you signed in and to keep the service secure. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Security

We use reputable providers and industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to limit access to it.

Children

MyCELPIP Coach is intended for adults preparing for the CELPIP test and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we make material changes we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
