CELPIP results: how long they take & your score report

The test is done, the headset is off — and now you're refreshing your inbox. Here's exactly what happens next: when your scores arrive, how to read the report you get, how they reach IRCC, and what your options are if a number comes back lower than you expected.

When your results arrive

Officially: your scores are posted to your CELPIP account within 2–4 business days of your test date. Two details people miss:

• Business days, not calendar days. A Saturday test can stretch the wait into the middle of the next week without anything being wrong.
• You don't need to keep checking. Paragon emails you the moment scores are posted — the refresh loop is optional suffering.

If more than 5 business days pass with nothing posted, that's the official threshold to contact Paragon through your account.

There's no paid fast lane and no paper option anymore — hard-copy score reports have been discontinued. Everyone gets the same timeline and the same delivery: a PDF in your account.

Getting the report

Sign in to your CELPIP account → Check Scores → download your Official Score Report as a PDF. That PDF is the official document — save a copy somewhere safe. Your scores stay viewable in the account for 2 years from your test date. (Immigration validity is its own 2-year clock that starts from the report's issue date, a few days later — details in how long a CELPIP score is valid.)

How to read it

The report shows a separate CELPIP Level (1–12) for each skill — Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking. No total, no average. The essentials:

• Each level converts 1:1 to CLB — a 9 is CLB 9. The full conversion, and what each level qualifies you for, is in the CELPIP score chart & CLB calculator.
• Your lowest skill is your real score. Immigration programs read your weakest component — a 9/9/9/6 profile counts as CLB 6 for PR eligibility.
• Below the numbers you may see M (minimal proficiency — below the measurable range) or NA (that component wasn't administered).
• The report also maps your levels to CEFR (the international scale) — nice for a CV, irrelevant for IRCC. What Canadian immigration reads is the CLB.

Sending scores to IRCC

Simpler than most people expect: you don't send anything physical. In your Express Entry profile or application you enter your test details, and IRCC verifies the scores electronically with Paragon. Keep the PDF for your records and for any upload step your application includes. That's it — no envelopes, no courier, no waiting on mail.

Lower than expected? Your two options

Option 1 — re-evaluation. Within 6 months of your test date you can pay a per-component fee to have components re-marked. The rules that matter:

• If the level changes, that component's fee is refunded.
• Each component gets one re-evaluation, ever. The request is final once submitted, and results take about 1–2 weeks.
• Skip it for Reading and Listening. Those are computer-scored, and Paragon itself notes a re-mark there is unlikely to change anything. Re-evaluation is really a decision about Writing and Speaking, where human raters score four dimensions and a borderline response can genuinely land differently on a second read.

When it's worth it: you're one level short on Writing or Speaking, and you walked out feeling that section went well. When it isn't: you're two or more levels off target — that gap is real, and the fee is better spent preparing.

Option 2 — retake. Often the stronger play, because IRCC uses your best valid result, and a focused retake attacks the exact skill that's gating you. Here's how to plan a retake that actually moves the number.

While you wait

The 2–4 days between test and scores is dead time for your application but useful time for you: if you suspect a skill came up short, a bit of low-stakes practice now means a retake decision is ready the day scores land.
